Platelet-Rich Plasma

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is the end product of whole blood centrifugation. As the name implies, it is simply highly concentrated platelets suspended in plasma. It is derived by the centrifugation of whole blood which separates the red cell mass from the plasma and platelets.

During centrifugation, the red cell mass (red) will separate to the outside of the disc having a heavier molecular weight and the plasma (yellow) will be in the center. Three LED lights of specific wavelengths and two detectors discern between the plasma, red blood cells and platelets/white blood cells (buffy-coat) fraction.
